Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 – World Film Premiere Inside Arrivals

Lace is a very feminine fabric that is used in layering with some of the most beautiful pieces of clothing. It is also used to make some of the sexiest lingerie outfits we have seen. Lately it seems like there is a fine line between the two both on the runway and on the streets.  When we see this gorgeous Zac Posen dress on the runway we praise it. Then we see celebrities wearing similar lace pieces and many of them are getting criticized for it.

The covers of american fashion magazines feature the likes of teethy celebs, resembling the cheap head shots these stars used at their first auditions.  The relevance of magazines such as American Vogue has been questioned for many years, but now the deficiencies are becoming more and more evident, especially when comparing them at various newsstands and magazine outlets.

Take for example these December’s covers for both Bazaar and Vogue.  The difference between America and Europe are unmistakable.  How many times will we see Katy Perry on the covers of American magazines?

While the gen pop rages over designer collaborations with discount or high-street retailers, the message that is being sent could be seen as a stab at high fashion.  Everyone is able to go to H&M and get a taste of Alber Elbaz for under $100, but most would never dream of having such fashion binges on the real thing.

Average folks storm the shelves of H&M and Target to get the likes of Alexander McQueen, Lanvin, and Sonia Rykiel, but where has the exclusivity gone?  It is rare to find such brands on closeout/ sample sale sites like HauteLook or Gilt, to protect these fashion houses’ brand image, but wouldn’t it be better to see these looks at highly discounted prices rather than at stores that everyone has access to?

We know that everything in fashion repeats itself… eventually, but you would assume after the Miu Miu cover scandal, PR teams would wise up and be a bit more strategic in how they allowed their product to be place.  Again, just like the Miu Miu dress, this Gold Balmain dress is without a doubt going to be a major hitter in the seasons to come, BUT it isn’t necessary to flood the covers of magazines internationally to penetrate the market.  There has to be a better method of getting recognized, are celebrity burrows not showing any influence anymore?

It is not a doubt that anyone who doesn’t live on planet Mars knows the song “We Speak No Americano,” a long favored song in Europe- beginning to penetrate the waves of American radios everywhere.

I am quite positive that no one really associates the song with any sort of artist, assuming that it is just the curation of some dj somewhere that has been remixed and regurtutated in clubs and discos for others to enjoy.  With this craze for good dance music, comes the territory of recognizing the artists behind the beats.

Designer Spotlight:Nikki Garcia

I recently had the chance to Interview young  San Francisco Designer Nikki Garcia, about her recent lookbook shoot and also her line. Here are some of the questions and also Lookbook Images.
-Where are you from?
I grew up in Portland, Oregon
-Did you go to school for design?
I did my undergrad at the University of Montana in business and photography, and afterward moved to SF to study fashion design at FIDM
-What do you think about the surge of new designers , within the last few years?
I think there are a lot of really creative artists emerging all the time, designers that are not trying to follow runway trends, and are using design as expression. Clothing design is fairly new for me, and it is inspiring to see independent designers who are not afraid to try new things and are making a name for themselves .
-Where does your inspiration come from?
All over. Everything I observe, experiences I have had, getting outside, thrifting, streetstyle, different design websites….something will catch my eye, or lots of things, and ideas will start to form and as I sketch or just start pinning up fabric the ideas take shape and I can go forward with the pieces. Usually I have a general idea of the mood and shape, and I let everything go in that direction.
-I saw you recent lookbook images and immediately thought the modern day Stevie Nicks with a twist, tell me a little about the shoot.
We did the shoot at Drawbridge Ghost Town, which has a really amazing history of  hunt clubs and brothels and basically lawlessness. The town began to sink so everyone left, but there are some really amazing structures there, and it really feels in the middle of nowhere, it’s not manicured or maintained like a lot of ghost towns that have become tourist destinations. I liked the idea of these really modern and structured, black pieces in the middle of the old wood houses and overgrown grass. My friend Dylan Ozanich shot all the photos, and we had some really great models involved. The photos turned out exactly as I wanted, they are a little moody and
dark.
If any questions related to Nikki’s line please shoot her an email:

Here we see JoJo at NYFW rocking the likes of Elaine Moreira- who’s earrings pull everything together causing her look to pop.  After seeing this picture, investigation went underway to discover what these jewels are all about.

Elaine Moreira, who has her studio in Puerto Rico, creates one of a kind jewels out of elements of Swarovski Crystals, Murano glass, sterling silver and fabric rosettes.  Her following consists of young Hollywood starlets everywhere.  Her jewelry is incredibly versatile- she creates necklaces from chunky stones, while her charms serve as an incredible addition to any headress.

V Magazine Fall Preview 2010 cover photo Mario Sorrenti stylist Andrew Richardson model Natasha Poly

Natasha Poly is the cover girl for November, being featured on the covers of V Magazine and French Vogue. Poly is featured as a women of power and strength.

In the past, covers depicted women to be these beautiful and perfect creatures.  In V and Vogue even though Natasha is beautiful it is a beauty that pushes the limits of conventionality.  Only a few months after Poly’s Courtney Love tribute spread in V magazine, she comes back a saint: Men carrying her as they wisk her away on a platform.
