The Aussie hit, Kit Willow veered slightly away from the body conscious designs that overwhelmed her previous collection in the spring.  Definitely having to do with the fact that she just gave birth only 3 months prior.  Many staple women around the world are joining the mommy train and transforming their attire as a result.  It is only appropriate that we see designers transitioning in the same way, after all we won’t be forever 21.

She says of her new collection “I’m still interested in the connections between humans and animals, but this season, I wanted to explore the very formal way we dress to ride these beautiful horses.”

Could it be possible that Rad Hourani is rubbing off on other designers, causing them to not design collections for men and women, but unisex. This is all the rage since the last season.
The division between sexes has long been dismissed- and that is more than evident at the opening of Fashion Week in NY. It is not about wearing your boyfriends blazer anymore- it is about finding a medium between the sexes, true equality.

Is this the tone that is being set for F/W 11.12?

Missoni Previews?

Just in case you aren’t following one of the Missoni clan on twitter, this morning, her 6 thousand followers received images of sketches done in the 70′s.  Could it be that the lovely Maccapani Missoni is giving us a little sneak peak as to what we should expect in the next 2 weeks during Milan Fashion Week.  Although the sketches are over 40 years old, they are by no means outdated!  From the floppy hat to the tribal inspired stripes- Missoni is still Missoni.  Lets see if our predictions are true and if the clan was feeling a bit reminiscent in the coming collection.  Hold your breath!

Mui Miu STARS

Wether it is Milan or Paris, when Miuccia Prada makes a statement it is listened to.  For both collections- Prada and Miu Miu we found two common threads that will be apparent for Spring Summer 2011- stripes and stars.  Not that these were unexpected for the season, especially when it comes time for Fourth of July.

Stripes have been presented in an anti nautical way for the future season- since we all wished them to be done and gone after many comebacks.  The change has spawned with a twist of natural from nature, showing pops of neons.  Prada’s stripe gave this feeling of bee’s at first glance, the stripe only apparent through the center of the garb.  Others dressed up the stripe in variations or textures and sequins, giving a scaled or skin feeling.

In an industry built around an image that sells to a targeted audience, it was very interesting to see some of the “beautiful people” who are selling you that image in poor lighting.

Real girls in the world go as far as starving themselves in order to achieve the look that’s in the magazines.

Well, after meeting the models first hand, and observing the backstage, it’s easy to see that some of the girls are healthy and happy, and even visiting the food table more than once, while others, look like they haven’t slept in days and have maybe even seen the wrong side of the mirror… if you catch the drift.

jackieparty

Left in a city, with little conversation due to language restrictions, it was a great surprise to have Grand Life and Opening Ceremony throwing a party here in Paris to celebrate Fashion Week.  During certain points of the party I was really confused whether I was in New York.

Those on the outside can’t help but wonder what it’s like to be on the inside.

These are pictures of faces in the crowd at the Chloe show in Paris.

While it may look glamorous on tv or the web, most people in attendance are exhausted, grouchy, and really really hot.

Check out some of the faces of those worthy of an invite.

Alexis Mabille: Spring 2010 Couture

Here at the Forward Fashion team, we have been raving about the bisected trend since the last season of Alexis Mabille, where a head to toe bisected trend was introduced.   The version seen initially was difficult to process at first sight- questioning the wearability of the trend at all.  Really, who can pull off this ostentatious suit, even among the most flamboyant of cities?

For this Spring Summer 2011, we have seen an array of designers hop on the bisected train following this great suit that no one knew how to where- translating it in a better way for people to pick up!  This trend was a good transition after such a mass liking to color blocking and asymmetry.

John Galliano was one of the reasons I decided to go into fashion. His status as the enfante terrible, his humble history, and his undying passion for his craft are all reasons why the public adores him.

I have heard many a story from people who have taught him or who have known him, and all speak of what an independent spirit he is. He never cared about money or the opinion of others, and would go out with his friends in London dressed in ostentatious attire and even slept on the floors of friends while struggling to get to his ultimate goal. All of this spirit is definitely apparent when one is lucky enough to be given the opportunity of being invited to a show.
