With “feminiman” Andrej Pejic and transsexual model Lea T (shown with Kate Moss on the front cover of Love Magazine) at the top of androgynous models who worked it on the catwalk for A/W 11/12 runways, people were bound to take note of what was around the corner. Its always been “cool” to have something that looks like it was borrowed for your boyfriend/dad/grandad, such as boyfriend jeans, grandad cardie, but this year all the coolest and bravest girls will be picking everything from blazers to the smallest accessory from a guys wardrobe.

If I could choose every piece in the collection, believe me, I would.  These are the best of the bunch:

We all knew that the electric tones were coming back, especially after these few dry years.  Now we see designers left and right falling in line with this trend.  Both Celine and Preen chose to accent a masculine suit look, with a feminine touch.  And here she is: The Pink Bottom Girl!

These are the best looks from Theykens Theory Resort 2012 Collection.  All the looks had a slouchy, laid back feel to it.  Appropriate for in and out of the office.

Head gear is a big subject, especially for the summer days, whether on a remote island somewhere  or trudging through the city from cab to office, finding any escape from the heat is necessary.  While Kim Kardashian flaunts her floppy hat, there are other options emerging in the world of runway.  The visor was a major statement for designers like Givenchy and Balenciaga.  It was a modern twist on some of the ethnic/ eastern european tones in the collection.  This is not your traditional fanny pack wearing, tourist in a hawaiian print shirt from Arkansas.

Long hems, irridescent pops of color, turbans, and peg leg suits are just a few ways I would describe Missonis’ Resort collection.  It is a breath of fresh air as we transition from a minimal state in fashion, where color was non-existent and so much focus was put on structure and volume.  This collection is taking it back to the basics, back to femininity, and really where women want to go.  The ability to be vibrant and stand out in the crowd.

draping white

While most of our wardrobe is infiltrated with monotonous glory for the majority of the year, we can step out of our Black cacoon to feel the summer sun.  Trade in your heavy cloaks for light and airy cotton, silks, and chiffons.  The summer days will be staple of sheer white dresses, with peeks of layers and volume, that drape over the body.

Its always an easier task when you can rely on your partner in crime.  Someone who gets you through the highs and the lows.  A person that will cosign your plan to dominate the world.  AND, if you happen to stumble into one of those weird dark grunge parties, it wont be as awkward if there is at least one other person in the room that looks like they too, have been tele-transported from a vogue party in Paris. Covered in fur, of course.

bling is back

Over the last few seasons we have been drowned and subdued with an abundance of minimal trends and silhouettes, taking away all the frills and glitters.  Not everything that glitters is gold.  Gold must be refined and processed over time.  Post drought, we see small examples of bling coming back, in the colors used and the embellishments.  These details are still being done in a careful and tasteful matter, over fabrics that are sheer and light.  It won’t be too long until we see it come back in full swing.

Give us BLING!

And if you were Kate Moss, what message would you leave behind?  Hopefully, you would be eating black caviar in your new sable coat!
